The Jim Halliday bursary supports students who are blind or have low vision who are exploring ideas in science, technology, engineering, arts, or mathematics. It recognizes projects that aim to improve accessibility and contribute to a more inclusive world. If you are working on a STEAM project, this is your opportunity to share your work and be recognized.

What recipients receive

Three (3) recipients will be selected. Recipients will receive HumanWare’s selection of cutting-edge braille and low vision solutions, innovative products worth thousands, designed to foster creativity and growth in STEAM. This includes:

Who can apply

Students from around the world can apply if they:

  • Are between 13 and 25 years old
  • Are blind or have low vision
  • Are working on, or have completed, a STEAM-related project 

Applications may be submitted by the student or through a nomination from a teacher, mentor, or community member.

What we are looking for

We are looking for projects that reflect:

  • Innovation and creative thinking
  • Leadership and initiative
  • A commitment to accessibility and inclusion
  • A positive impact on everyday life

Projects can be technical, artistic, or interdisciplinary.

School subjects including science, technology, reading, art and mathematics.

Timeline

  • Applications will be open from April 1 to June 1, 2026.
  • The selection process will take place over one month following the application deadline.
  • Devices will be shipped to the winners in mid-August.
