HumanWare introduces the Victor Reader Stratus 2, a next-generation DAISY player designed to improve access to digital reading for people with visual impairments. Building on more than 15 years of expertise in accessible reading solutions, the Stratus 2 provides a simple and reliable way to access DAISY books, audio content, and online libraries.
Known for its simplicity, tactile interface, and reliability, the Victor Reader Stratus range has long set the standard for accessible audio reading devices.
The introduction of the Stratus 2 does not mean saying goodbye to the original. Many users continue to rely on extensive CD collections and the integrated disc drive of the first-generation Stratus.
To ensure every reader has the solution that best fits their needs, HumanWare will continue to offer both the original Victor Reader Stratus and the new Stratus 2. Whether users prefer the traditional CD-based experience or a more streamlined digital reading approach, the choice remains theirs.
At HumanWare, we believe innovation should not require relearning. That is why the Stratus 2 retains a design very close to the widely adopted Victor Reader Stratus 4/4M. Users will recognise the same tactile, high-contrast keypad, ensuring a smooth and immediate transition.
While the exterior remains familiar, the internal architecture has been fully redesigned. The Stratus 2 features a modernised hardware and software platform, delivering faster navigation, improved responsiveness, and greater stability for digital reading—supporting the future of digital accessibility, including large-scale deployments in libraries and institutional settings.
The Stratus 2 is optimised for today’s reading habits. By focusing on high-performance online delivery rather than an internal CD drive, the device is lighter and more efficient.
With direct access to DAISY Online libraries, users can browse and download books and magazines with ease. Whether keeping up with the latest news or enjoying a novel, content is accessible more quickly and reliably.
The Stratus 2 remains a versatile solution for digital reading and audio content. The hardware has been updated to meet modern standards while maintaining the connectivity users depend on:
Victor Reader solutions have already demonstrated their value in large-scale, real-world environments.
In Sweden, the Swedish Agency for Accessible Media (MTM) enables more than 6,000 people with visual impairments to receive their daily newspaper directly on their device, using DAISY-based online delivery technology.
These examples highlight a key principle: when accessible technology is simple, reliable, and connected, access to reading becomes faster, more inclusive, and easier to scale.
“The original Stratus has been a trusted companion for our users for over 15 years,” says Mathieu Paquette, Product Manager at HumanWare.
“With the Stratus 2, we wanted to provide a modern, online-first DAISY player while continuing to support users who rely on CD-based playback. By offering both models, we enable users to choose what best fits their reading habits.”
The Stratus 2 is also well suited for libraries, local authorities, and institutions seeking simple, scalable accessible reading solutions.
