We’re excited to bring you version 1.7 for the Victor Reader Stream 3, introducing a brand option for your text-to-speech engine, updated NLS BARD support, and several fixes and improvements you asked for!
We’ve added eSpeak NG, a text-to-speech engine, to the Stream 3 — alongside Acapela, not instead of it. eSpeak’s biggest strength is its huge language library: it brings support for many languages that Acapela doesn’t offer, opening the Stream 3 up to even more users around the world. Keep in mind that eSpeak’s voices sound noticeably more robotic than Acapela’s, so think of it as a way to broaden your language options rather than a replacement. Acapela remains fully available and nothing has been removed. With this update, you can install up to 4 voices at once: 2 from Acapela and 0 to 2 from eSpeak, so you can mix and match to suit your needs.
NLS BARD is moving to a new API, and the Stream 3 is ready for it. Version 1.7 brings support for NLS BARD 2, including new functionality such as advanced search. The transition should be seamless — you won’t need to change anything to keep enjoying your NLS BARD library.
As always, this update also includes plenty of smaller fixes and under-the-hood improvements you’ll notice throughout your day-to-day use.
