HumanWare is proud to support the ICEVI–WBU Global Braille Literacy Campaign as a Diamond Sponsor, joining a worldwide movement dedicated to advancing braille literacy and inclusion for people who are blind, deafblind, or have low vision.
Led by the International Council for Education of People with Visual Impairment (ICEVI) and the World Blind Union (WBU), the campaign brings together educators, advocates, families, organizations, and partners around a shared goal: ensuring that braille remains a foundation for reading, writing, learning, and independence at every stage of life.
Around the world, many children and adults still face barriers to accessing quality braille instruction, learning materials, and technology. The Global Braille Literacy Campaign addresses these gaps by promoting equitable access to braille in both tactile and digital formats, supporting effective teaching practices, and encouraging collaboration across education systems and communities.
The campaign is structured around advocacy, information sharing, and research. Through accessible awareness materials, shared resources for educators and families, and global research initiatives, it works to strengthen braille literacy and build a stronger evidence base to inform policies and practices worldwide.
The Global Braille Literacy Campaign officially launched on World Braille Day, January 4, 2026, and will run over a two-year period, through 2026 and 2027.
Frances Gentle, Past President of ICEVI, highlighted the importance of collective action in advancing braille literacy worldwide:
“Global change happens when organisations step forward with purpose. HumanWare’s commitment as a Diamond Sponsor is accelerating progress toward a world where every child who needs braille can learn, read, and thrive.”

HumanWare also sees this partnership as an opportunity to work alongside organizations that have long been advancing braille literacy globally.
As Pedro Polson, CEO of HumanWare Europe, Middle East and Africa, noted:
“HumanWare are proud to stand with ICEVI and WBU in championing global braille literacy, ensuring that every person who is blind or has low vision has the tools to learn, thrive, and participate fully in society.”

HumanWare’s participation reflects a belief that braille literacy is essential to full participation in education, employment, and daily life. We are honored to join this global effort and to support a campaign that places people, literacy, and inclusion at its core.
